Getting Started

Before You Book

If you are struggling to communicate, feeling disconnected, navigating a specific life transition, or just know that something isn't working — couples therapy or coaching can help. The free 15-minute consultation is the best place to start. We will help you understand what kind of support makes the most sense for where you are right now.

Therapy is a licensed clinical service that can diagnose and treat mental health conditions. It is provided by Brian T. Jones, LMHC, and is appropriate for couples dealing with trauma, crisis, or clinical mental health concerns.

Coaching is a goal-oriented, growth-focused service that does not involve diagnosis or treatment. It is provided by Emily Jones, Certified Relational Coach, and is ideal for couples who are stable but want to strengthen their relationship, improve communication, or work through a specific life stage.

Both services use the F.E.R.N.S. Method and are available nationwide since we are 100% online.

For couples therapy, yes — both partners need to be present and willing to engage in the process. The work requires both of you in the room.

For Connected Conversations, we encourage both partners to attend but it is not required. Some individuals attend on their own and bring what they learn back to their relationship.

Our Approach

The F.E.R.N.S. Method

The F.E.R.N.S. Method is a proprietary clinical framework developed by Brian T. Jones. It identifies the five components that act as barriers to identifying and communicating your actual needs in a relationship — Feelings & Fears, Expectations, Reactivity, Needs, and Sensitivities.

The core insight of the method is this: the conflict is almost never really about what it appears to be about. Beneath every argument are unmet needs — and beneath those needs are feelings, expectations, reactivity, and sensitivities blocking access to them. The F.E.R.N.S. Method gives couples a structured path to identify those barriers and find their way to the actual needs beneath them.

Most couples therapy approaches focus on communication skills, conflict resolution techniques, or emotional regulation. Those are valuable — and the F.E.R.N.S. Method incorporates elements of EFT, Gottman, Attachment Theory, and other evidence-based frameworks.

What makes F.E.R.N.S. different is that it goes one level deeper. Rather than teaching you how to argue better, it helps you understand why you are arguing in the first place — and gets to the unmet needs driving the conflict. When you address the actual need, the conflict changes.

Every couple is different. Some couples notice a shift in their dynamic within the first few sessions. For others, particularly those working through significant history or crisis, the process takes longer.

What we can tell you is this: the couples who commit to the work and show up consistently — in private sessions, in Connected Conversations, and in their relationship between sessions — tend to see meaningful change within four to six sessions.

Practical Details

How It All Works

We do not accept insurance at this time. We are a private pay practice. This allows us to focus entirely on your care without the limitations that insurance companies often impose on the frequency, duration, and type of treatment.

Some clients choose to submit receipts to their insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. We are happy to provide a superbill upon request. We recommend checking with your insurance provider directly to understand your out-of-network benefits.

Private sessions with Brian are $200 per session. Connected Conversations members receive a discounted rate of $150 per session — the membership pays for itself after just two sessions.

Private coaching sessions with Emily are available at a separate rate — please contact us for current pricing.

The Pre-Marital Coaching Package is $1,999 for 8 sessions — a complete program designed to build your foundation before marriage.

Connected Conversations membership is $99 per month, billed monthly, and includes bi-weekly Tuesday live sessions, monthly Open Chair with Brian, and between-session text and email support. Your first Tuesday session is free.

We are 100% online. All private sessions and Connected Conversations live sessions take place via secure video. You can join from anywhere in the country — all you need is a reliable internet connection and a private space.

The easiest first step is booking a free 15-minute consultation. You can do that directly through our online booking system — no phone call required if you prefer to start online. If you would rather talk first, call us at (302) 440-4032 or email us at support@bmetherapyassociates.com.

There is no wrong way to reach out. We will help you figure out the right next step from there.
